After months of speculation, general manager Dave Gettleman confirmed Thursday that the Giants have released Marshall with a failed physical designation.

The move will save the organization $5.1 million against the salary cap.

Signed to a two-year, $12 million deal last March, Marshall lasted just five games before an ankle injury sabotaged his 2017 season.

Following an Indian-summer career year at age 31 in 2015, Marshall’s play fell off a cliff in 2016, leading to his Jets release. He was even less effective in those handful of games with Eli Manning last year, hauling in just 18 passes for an anemic 154 yards (8.6 yards per reception) and zero touchdowns.

The one thing you can’t tell him is, ‘You can’t do that,’ because if you tell him that, then hell is coming with him, Chinander said. If anybody else had his numbers, if anybody else had the tape that he has, they’d be a first-round pick, no question. He’s just going to have to do it in the NFL like he’s done it everywhere else — he’s going to outwork everybody.

I told some NFL scouts, ‘If you let him in your building, you’re going to have a hell of a time getting him out of there.’

When Chinander’s comment was relayed to Griffin, he laughed over the phone and told The Post, He’s right.

Although Barkley’s reps would reportedly prefer Barkley slip past No. 1 overall and go No. 2 to the New York Giants, Barkley has no plans to force the Browns to pass on him.

Baskin added that Barkley has told friends he has visions of bringing a championship to Cleveland and becoming a beloved figure in much the same way LeBron James did by leading the Cavaliers to an NBA title.

Kim Miale, Barkley’s agent, later denied the report to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com in a statement:

I can say on behalf of our entire team that we would be thrilled for Saquon to go to whichever team drafts him. We know he will be a resounding success for any team fortunate enough to select him.

Sports Illustrated would release a statement to A.J. Perez of USA Today defending the report, SI continues to stand by its reporting and story in the current issue.

Barkley is widely viewed as the best all-around prospect in the 2018 NFL draft, but his reps may not have to worry much about him going No. 1 overall.
