Facing the Spurs is tough enough, no matter the circumstances.

Now imagine that it’s your third game in four days and your fifth game in eight days. Imagine that it’s the second of a back-to-back set and that after hosting the Grizzlies you’ll fly east from Denver for San Antonio — losing an hour in the process — to face the Spurs less than 24 hours later. Those who were supposed to be the best and most consistent players for Memphis, for one reason or another, have not been. Their failures, and all the explanations behind them, have created an imperfect storm of irreparable harm to a roster that needed everything to go right to compete.
